psychoanalysis.

I am a Freudian psychoanalyst, trained at the School of Freudian Psychoanalysis (Scuola di Psicanalisi Freudiana - SPF) in Milan, where I also hold the position of Vice President.

I started my analytical training back in 2016, during my last year of university and I got passionate about this science.

At SPF, I had the opportunity to deepen my understanding of psychoanalytic theory and its method of investigation, as well as to explore the naturalistic and rationalistic foundations of psychoanalysis as a science of nature.

Since then I continued studying and I started practicing as a lay analyst in 2023.

I work in Milan or online, in Italian, English or French.

a definition.

Psychoanalysis is the science of the unconscious established by Sigmund Freud. Its body of theory is constituted by Freud’s milestones and by the contributions of later authors who built thereon without fundamental contradictions. In the preface to the “Dictionary of sexology” by Max Marcuse published in 1922, Freud delineated a more precise and detailed definition of psychoanalysis, according to which this is:

  • firstly, a method for investigating psychological processes otherwise inaccessible;

  • secondly, a treatment against neurotic disorders, which is based on such investigation;

  • thirdly, a body of psychological knowledge obtained in this manner, which gradually accumulates and converges into a new scientific field.

My contribution is purely intellectual and knowledge-oriented, not therapeutical.

The analytical path I promote is the classic one, in line with the Freudian tradition.

The approach is centered on analytic practice as a method of inquiry: its primary aim is the recovery of freedom of choice, achieved through a deep understanding of the psychic dynamics of the subjects in analysis. Put simply, it is about enabling those in analysis to regain the ability to resolve their own problems independently.

You can find additional information on the dedicated section of SPF website.
Therefore, a significant commitment is required from the analysand to carry out the analysis properly.

Before undertaking the analysis proper, one or more preliminary interviews are scheduled. These are necessary to frame the request, orient the issues involved, and assess the applicant’s disposition, as well as their compatibility with the analyst.

These meetings do not serve a merely evaluative function: they represent the first space in which the subject is called upon to articulate their request—a request that, as Freud showed, often does not coincide at all with the manifest reason for seeking help.

The preliminary interviews therefore constitute an essential moment of mutual verification. The aim is to determine whether that working alliance can be established which makes the analytic experience possible. It is a twofold assessment: on the one hand, the subject evaluates whether they can entrust themselves to the analyst; on the other, the analyst observes whether the emerging request can sustain analytic work and whether there is compatibility with their own way of working.

FAQs.

  • What is the difference between psychoanalysis as you (the SPF) understand it and psychoanalytic psychotherapy?

In short, the main difference lies in the aim of the treatment: in psychoanalysis, as instituted by Freud and practiced by us, the aim is epistemic and ethical, whereas in psychoanalytic psychotherapy it is therapeutic/medical. We do not treat or cure; rather, we enable the subject in analysis to be able to do so themselves. For further details, please refer to the dedicated page.
